The Diamond opened in September 2015, and represents the University of Sheffield’s largest single investment in learning and teaching facilities, at a cost of £81 million. The six-storey building houses a range of lecture theatres, seminar rooms, computer suites, specialist engineering teaching labs, a recording studio, and a café. The Diamond itself, and most of the facilities, are available to university students and staff 24/7.

Building on the experiences of the Information Commons (which opened in 2007), The Diamond offers a unique integrated learning environment, with library and learning spaces throughout the building. This gives staff and students the opportunity to move between formal and informal learning situations in new and exciting ways.
